Removing Pesticides from Vegetables at Home

As the weather gets colder, it's the perfect season for hot pots. When it comes to vegetables, do you buy organic, or do you go for regular produce?

In our household, we purchase and eat both. Of course, we know that organic vegetables are better, but they tend to be more expensive, which makes us hesitate sometimes. And even with organic produce, it doesn't necessarily mean they're completely free of pesticides.

At Syakujinoyu, we use a popular method of washing vegetables with shell powder, whether they're organic or regular, to remove pesticides and surface wax. This way, it's not only easier on the wallet but also gentler on your body!

You may have noticed that shell powder is now widely available on Amazon and Rakuten.

But when you look at the reviews, they all seem pretty similar.

With so many options, it can be hard to know which one to choose!

Have you ever had such an experience?

That’s why this time, I’d like to share with you the Syakujinoyu method for selecting products. I hope you'll stay with us until the end.

  • Tips for Choosing the Right Product

    1. Product

      • Shell powder can remove pesticides from vegetables.

    2. Price

      • Prices range widely, from 160 yen to 1,000 yen per 100g.

    3. Versatility

      • Can also be used for disinfection and cleaning.

Let’s put this into a table for easier comparison.

At Syakujinoyu, we use scallop shell powder from Hinode Products.

When comparing them in a table, there's not much difference aside from price. So, how do you determine the value of a product?

The answer is safety.

At Syakujinoyu, we prioritize safety in all our products. With so many different products available on the market, it can be truly overwhelming.

Many people might think the only way to find out is by using and testing the products themselves.

Most competing products have not undergone clinical trials or received certification, and some even use ingredients other than scallop shells, claiming higher efficacy while ignoring safety concerns.

Also, be cautious about patents. When you hear "patent," you might think, "Wow! If it's patented, it must be safe!" However, at Syakujinoyu, we investigate which parts of the product the patent covers and only sell products that are proven to be safe.

By now, you probably understand our point. The shell powder from Hinode PRODUCTS.

What caught Syakujinoyu’s attention was this information on Hinode’s website:

Hinode's scallop shell powder is a natural food additive, made by calcining scallop shells at temperatures above 1000°C. It is classified as calcined calcium, listed as an existing additive (No. 158) by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan. Despite having a strong alkalinity with a pH above 12, it has been approved by the U.S. Institutional Review Board (IRB) as having less skin irritation than distilled water. It simultaneously cleans and disinfects, making it safe, harmless, and hygienic for use on any surface.

As you can see, even if a product is cheap, it’s counterproductive if it poses risks to your health.

At Syakujinoyu, we will continue to seek out and provide our customers with safe and reliable products.

Next time, we will discuss generic medications.
